2)Offering to customers: My opportunity offers students the chance to earn higher grades, which will benefit them if they wish to pursue graduate school. My opportunity also allows higher pass rates for courses which increases the professor's reviews and TA's as well. My opportunity also benefits parents because they witness the increased amount of stress their child is going through just to earn these really high grades.
3) Who are you offering it to: I'm offering my opportunity to the UF Office of the University Registrar, which records student grades. They are in charge of the grading policy so any new proposals have to be approved by them before anything happens.
4) Why do they care: Nowadays, many students are more sensitive and suspectible to excess amounts of stress, especially during their college years. Also, professors and TA's can have higher pass rates in their classes which increases their status among the university.
5) What are your core competencies: I believe as a a student I have an advantage in identifying this opportunity and making efforts to change the current grading policy. My changes will make a huge difference and leave a widespread impact on everyone at the University of Florida.
Most of my elements do fit together, and somehow aligns with my interests in politics and law. In politics, you are always trying to promote change in a society and do what it takes to help people live more comfortably. The only challenge about this plan is that UF being a top 10 university, it is very unlikely that they would want to lower their standards and make it easier for students to get the grades they want. The biggest challenge will be to try to convince the university registrar that making changes to the grading policy won't decrease the prestige of UF.

Hey Sara,
ReplyDeleteI love that you want to be the change you want to see, it’s an incredible trait to care so much about the world around you! Your opportunity is quite interesting, I can definitely relate to constantly having stress over a simple grade. I think who you are and your idea corelate well together, especially because it promotes a change.
Sara,
ReplyDeleteAs you are accomplishing so much already, I am looking forward to what your future has in store for you. I agree that the change in the grading policy will be a positive change for students, especially STEM majors. As UF is in the list of top 10 public universities, it is more competitive as professors have a higher expectation from students and are pushing students to work even more harder.
This is a great post and I admire your passion for change in the grading system here at UF. Even though you know that it will be difficult to achieve I like your dedication. I hope that if you want to pursue this idea, that UF will become more willing to try it. And good job for having most of your element fit together.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara, I love, love, love and love your idea. I know, I think many university students feel the same way. But I wonder what does the university think about this problem. Do they want to have a distinction between a student who received lower end of B or higher end of B? Have you checked if this change is up to university or this is part of state education requirements all colleges in FL must follow? Those are important questions to ask. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea because before coming to UF I had no idea that a one point difference in grades could mean so much for your GPA. It has definitely creaed an added stress and I think this idea could relieve that. I also think that you being a student definitely helps you understand this need in a personal way that allows you to attach yourself to the problem and solution in the perfect way.
